Croton Dam

"The Masonry Dam is 266 Feet Broad at its Base; 297 Feet High from Base to Crest; Its Foundation Extends 130 Feet Below the Bed of the River; It Contains 850,000 Cubic Yards of Masonry; and It Impounds 30,000,000,000 Gallons of Water."
