The following information was provided on March 27, 2003 by Roland E. Tompkins of Newburgh, NY and edited by Peggy Derevlany, Webmaster, Yorktown Historical Society.

"I was was born in Lake Mohegan and lived there all my life until 1987 when I moved to Newburgh, New York. I am 68 years old and graduated from Shrub Oak High School in 1953. My father, Warner Tompkins, was the first paid firefighter of the Lake Mohegan Fire District when it was formed in 1933. I still have his #1 badge in my possession for paid firemen. My father was killed in 1953 October 3rd when he was hit by a car while crossing the highway when I was stationed in the US air force... He was visiting me.

"I would like this to be put in the archives for the portion of the historical portion for Lake Mohegan Volunteers that I have seen. My father was a Fire Commissioner for Lake Mohegan Fire District when he was killed in u state NY. Thank you. Roland E Tompkins"
